MIMC is free and open to all
who are committed to the independent media arts, including individual mediamakers and the institutions that support our industry.

MIMC is a unifying voice for independent mediamakers and organizations across the diverse communities of Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

We work to create an inclusive, supportive, and sustainable environment in which media artists can thrive.

Our commitments are:

• Championing our region’s mediamakers, their work, and their impact on society both locally and nationally

• Advocating for stable, inclusive and accessible career pipelines

• Cultivating greater philanthropic and investment support, both regional and national

• Enabling and improving access to distribution venues and platforms that support career sustainability

• Connecting makers from across our region to foster knowledge sharing, new collaborations, and unified action

MIMC, among other regional media organizations, grew out of the Independent Media Arts Group (IMAG), an initiative of the Sundance Institute supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. IMAG is focused on supporting a sustainable media industry across the United States.

We are also thankful to AFI DOCS, Women in Film and Video, and other organizations that helped sow the seeds of our coalition.
